What led you to join Untravelled Paths?
Before joining Untravelled Paths, I was working in a hotel, but honestly, it started to feel a bit monotonous. Then, the opportunity to join this amazing team came along, and I couldn’t resist! Why Untravelled Paths? Because I believe every journey is a chance to uncover something unexpected and exciting. I love the idea of guiding people to hidden gems off the typical tourist trail – it’s like being a treasure hunter, but instead of gold, it’s unique experiences we’re discovering together!
Why do you do what you do? What do you enjoy the most about being a guide?
I do what I do because I love helping people explore new perspectives and uncover hidden gems – it’s like being an adventure partner! What I enjoy most about being a guide is that every journey brings something fresh and exciting. I get to be part of those unforgettable ‘aha!’ moments when people connect with a place or experience on a deeper level. Plus, the challenges along the way keep it all dynamic and rewarding – there’s never a dull moment!
“Edi was amazing, arranging everything for us, making sure we had a smooth and always pleasant trip and organising extra special detours and stops along the way (Nevermore Academy!) to make our stay unique and memorable.” Read More…
Micah Rosenkind, The Dracula Experience
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
What I enjoy most about my job is connecting with people and helping them discover new perspectives. It’s amazing how much I get to learn from others about different countries and cultures, and I find it so rewarding to see how these experiences can enrich their lives and open up their horizons. Every interaction feels like a shared journey of growth and discovery!
Edi on various adventures across Europe
How has travel changed you throughout the years?
“Travel has transformed me in so many ways! It’s like hitting life’s reset button – it gives me a fresh perspective and reminds me just how big (and often hilarious) the world can be. The more I explore, the more I’ve learned to be open-minded, adaptable, and appreciative of the little things. Plus, it’s honed my knack for uncovering hidden gems, whether it’s a tucked-away spot or a surprising life lesson!”
What did you want to be when you grew up and are you there yet?
I dreamed of being a rugby player – I used to be a flying winger and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, a boot to the head resulted in an eye injury that ended my playing career before it could really take off. I was lucky to keep my sight, so while it was a tough setback, it steered me toward a different path. Turns out, a ‘normal’ life isn’t so bad after all – it’s full of its own unexpected adventures!
Tell us something that you love about where you are from?
When not tunnelling his best Kim Jong Un impression, Edi enjoys playing the piano!
What I love most about Romania is its incredible mix of culture, nature, and warmth. The food is delicious – think hearty stews and irresistible pastries that always hit the spot. The music, whether it’s traditional folk or modern beats, brings such a unique vibe. The people are warm and welcoming, always ready to share a laugh or a story. And the natural beauty? It’s straight out of a fairytale, with lush forests, majestic mountains, and charming villages. Romania really is a place that has it all!
What do you feel when you look back to where you come from and what you achieved thus far?
When I look back at where I come from and what I’ve achieved, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and pride. None of it would have been possible without the unwavering support of my family and wife – they’ve been my biggest cheerleaders. Their belief in me, combined with my own determination, has been the driving force behind everything I’ve accomplished so far.
Lastly, tell us what is your favourite destination and why?
My favourite destination has to be Lapland – it’s magical! I even got engaged there, so it holds an extra special place in my heart. It’s like stepping into a winter wonderland, with snow-draped forests, the promise of the awe-inspiring Northern Lights, and an atmosphere that feels straight out of a fairytale. From meeting Santa Claus to reindeer sleigh rides and cosy nights by the fire, Lapland is an adventure that blends nature, culture, and joy into one unforgettable experience!

We’ve heard what Edi has had to say, but what does his boss say about him?

It’s been quite the adventure, but through it all, I’ve discovered some truly special places that have left a lasting impression. Northern Lights Ranch, Finland
Even after multiple stays, it still feels surreal staying in glass accommodation and I still get a bit giddy at the possibility of a perfect night under the Aurora Borealis. Northern Lights Ranch, nestled in the heart of Finnish Lapland, is a dream destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers. This unique resort combines modern luxury with breathtaking Arctic scenery, offering cosy, glass-roofed cabins perfect for viewing the mesmerising northern lights from the comfort of your bed. What I love most about this place is that due to the practical shape of the room, everything fits and feels like it belongs and the same cannot be said for the awkwardly shaped igloo shaped rooms where nothing fits comfortably. Guests can explore snow-covered landscapes, enjoy reindeer safaris, or relax in private outdoor hot tubs under a starlit sky. The ranch’s on-site restaurant serves gourmet Nordic cuisine, adding a culinary delight to the magical experience. Ideal for couples, families, or solo explorers, Northern Lights Ranch offers an unforgettable stay in a winter wonderland.

I didn’t know it until I first visited but I love deserts. The stillness, the camp fire, the stars and of course the sand dunes – it’s just a mystical and magical place. I’ve now been to a number of deserts from the Atacama to Wadi Rum but no where offers quite the local flavour in its hositality and accommodation like Morocco. Calanoa Lodge, Colombia
I’ve stayed in various luxurious Amazonian lodges in Ecuador and Peru but as amazing as they were, nowhere quite captured the true essence of the Amazon, like Calanoa Lodge. This was largely due to the unique “wall-less” rooms, which allow you to drift off to sleep to the white noise of the Amazon rainforest. Of course, you’re not completely unprotected, there is an impenetrable, tight mesh that protects you from the insects – I didn’t get bitten once in 3 nights! Nestled deep in the Amazon rainforest of Colombia, Calanoa offers a truly immersive experience in one of the world’s most biodiverse regions. This eco-lodge blends sustainable design with local craftsmanship, open-air cabins that harmonise with the surrounding jungle. Guests can embark on guided hikes, canoe trips, and wildlife tours to discover the Amazon’s vibrant flora and fauna, or engage with local Indigenous communities to learn about their traditions. Meals are a delight, showcasing fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Perfect for eco-conscious travellers and adventure seekers, Calanoa Lodge provides an unparalleled opportunity to connect with nature and explore the magic of the Amazon.
